During the 1994/1995 season Ambrosini joined the Cesena’s first team. It was short thereafter that A.C. Milan’s coach, Fabio Capello, was quick to sign him on the squad. It was not all glory for Ambrosini however. He suffered a series of injuries that held back his development as a star player.

Ambrosini broke through in the 2006/2007 season by scoring several decisive goals for AC Milan. He renewed his contract with Milan through 2010.
