Location: Naples, Italy
Stadium: Stadio San Paolo
Founded: 1926
Naples Football history began on August 1, 1926, when several Neapolitan businessmen decided to set up a Neapolitan football team. The Naples Team didn't tally many important awards before the nineties, only recording 2 Italy Cups in 1962 and 1976, 1 Alps Cup in 1966 and 1 Anglo-Italian League Cup in 1977.
After risking relegation to the Italian Championship Second Division many times, in 1984 the Naples bought Maradona from the Barcelona Football Team and more than 60,000 people attended San Paolo Stadium to celebrate this great champion's arrival. From 1984 to 1991, thanks to Maradona, Naples became one of the best football teams all over the world. They won 2 Italian Championships in 1987 an 1990, 1 Italy Cup in 1987, 1 UEFA Cup in 1989, and 1 Italy Super Cup in 1991. In 1991, the end of these golden years began when Naples missed the UEFA qualifications, was eliminated from the Champions League Cup and Maradona was disqualified for doping.
Directly after Maradona's departure, Naples was unable to succeed in either the Italian Championship or in international competition.
In September 2004, the Naples Football Society went bankrupt and a new association was established. The Naples Soccer Team has begun competing in the Italian Championship Third Division.
In only two short years, Napoli has advanced into the Italian Second Division, and continues to grow and progress, but remains a mere reminder of their past years of success and glory.
