Ravenna Calcio debuted as a professional football club in the 1957-58 season. This first season saw unprecedented success for a firs year team, earning them a third place finish in the league. In the 1960's, Ravenna fought their way into the Italian C league, but was followed by several years of hardship, which left the team struggling to remain in the league. The 1990's started with a bang, as Calcio saw a promotion to C1 followed shortly by their historical promotion into the B league. Unfortunately, success in the new championship proved diffifult, and the team returned to the C1 league immediately after their first season. In 1995, Calcio competed in the play-offs to reach the B once again but it was only the year after that the Italian side, led by Stefan Schwoch's goal, conquered the C1 league and was back in the B league. The team remained in the league until 2001, until its relegation to C1. During the last season Calcio finished 13th ensuring their spot next season in the league.
