The Valenciennes Football Club is a French football club founded in 1915 by a group of young men, Mr Colson, Joly and Bouly. With the Great War in progress, the club made little impact at first. However, in 1916 another group of sportsmen made contact with the directors of the club with a view to creating the "Union Sportive Valenciennes-Anzin". Under the leadership of the new president, M. Lélithouard, the club attained professional status in 1933. In 1994 Valenciennes relegated to Division 3. Two years after the club is renamed as "Valenciennes Football Club and things started to go better. In fact in the 2005-06 season Mr Antoine Kombouaré became head coach and under his guide the team promoted first to Ligue 2 and then to Ligue 1.
